Do you know someone who needs a sleep study but they do not have insurance, or the study is not covered by their insurance?  Then an at home screening study is what is needed.  At CPAP Supplies Plus/Direct you can achieve this with the APLAB.  With this FDA approved, low cost, and simple to use device, you can determine  whether Obstructive Sleep Apnea  maybe a cause of certain health issues. The patient straps the beeper-sized data logger to an arm and places the nasal cannula under their nose.  Then, a plastic strip from the device is pulled to activate a small, internal computer.  The unit runs for a full 8 hours measuring every breath and monitoring breathing patterns.  The APLAB is then returned via mail to be downloaded.  An extremely accurate report is generated for a physician to analyze, to determine the best course of treatment for the patient.  Please read more about APLAB by clicking the link: http://www.cpapplus.com/Miscellaneous/ApLab.html

Are you going camping but still need your CPAP machine?  Do you have continual blackouts in your area?  This has been a concern of CPAP users for years.  Now there is a way to use your CPAP even if those conditions exist. The AeioMed Company has introduced a portable, lightweight CPAP machine called the AURA that offers a battery option.  Fully rechargeable, the battery can operate the system all night and adds only 1" to the system height.  This is the perfect answer for those camping, sailing or "electricity not available" trips.  For more information click the link: http://www.cpapplus.com/Machines/CPAP/Aura/Aura.html

Sleep apnea, first described in 1965, owes its' name to the Greek work, apnea, which means "want of breath".  There are two types of sleep apnea: Central and Obstructive.  Central Sleep Apnea, the less common, occurs when the brain fails to send the appropriate signals to the breathing muscles to initiate respirations.  Obstructive Sleep Apnea occurs when air cannot flow into or out of the person's nose or mouth, although efforts to breathe continue.  Pass this information on to a friend who might be experiencing these effects.

As always we hope that you find this information helpful and informative.  We thank you for choosing CPAP Supplies Plus/Direct as your supplier for CPAP equipment and accessories.  Also, don't forget to change your CPAP filters regularly!  Also, tubing should be replaced every 30-60 days!
