 As stated in our flyer sent out last week, RESMED has officially introduced sweeping reforms as it pertains to internet sales of RESMED products. While RESMED states they have the patient’s best interest in mind, they have mandated ALL internet sites to raise their prices on CPAP machines, masks and some mask parts. The price increase is estimated to be approximately 40-60%. We at CPAP Supplies Plus/Direct realize the burden this will place on our customers and would like to apologize to our many loyal customers for these increases. While we currently have not accepted the terms of the RESMED policy, CPAP Supplies Plus/Direct realizes the responsibility to our customers who may remain loyal to the RESMED brand. Several internet providers have publicly stated their opposition to the RESMED policy and have vowed to discontinue the distribution of RESMED products. We encourage you, the loyal customers of RESMED to voice your opinion.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed. In related news the Sleep Manufacturers have created an Alliance. This information has been rumored for several months – but now appears to be true. A medical news magazine printed an article which lists the members of the group as well as the agenda items for this Alliance. One of the main items on the Alliance “To Do” list is to lobby the government for higher reimbursement rates (the dollar amount which providers can request when submitting insurance claims). This customer stated that “just like OPEC, the Alliance will sit behind a big conference table and mandate higher prices for the products they know we as consumers need and can not live without.” In other industry news Tiara Medical Systems, Inc. has been purchased by Viasys Healthcare Inc. In a press release early last week Viasys reported the acquisition stating that “the acquisition will allow the Conshohocken, Pa., medical device company to "compete effectively" in the rapidly growing sleep therapy market by building on its existing product offerings.” |

 Sleep Deprivation Doubles Risks Of Obesity In Both Children And Adults is the headline of an article posted July 13, 2006 on the site of SCIENCE DAILY. The article states “that sleep deprivation is associated with an almost a two-fold increased risk of being obese for both children and adults. This study does suggest a correlation with weight gain and our inability to lose those extra pounds.
