Every month or so it seems that a sleep product manufacturer releases a new item.  Below you will find information on the new products that have been introduced into the market recently.







*RESPIRONICS At the national trade show inAtlanta last month, Respironics showcased the new line-up of their small machines called the MSeries. The look is small, sleek, with the LCD screen hidden under a cover. The buttons are designed to be recognizable to the touch, so one can make adjustments in the dark. An attached humidifier will be available for purchase with the machine and a nice feature of the tubing attached in the back.  The small machines are tentatively to be released to the market in the first quarter of 2006. Respironics also released a new BiPap Auto with Bi-Flex. Auto Adjust maintains the minimum and maximum effective pressure and delivers only the level that's needed when needed within set parameters of the machine and one's prescription. This BiPap still offers the Bi-Flex feature that softens airflow delivery at the end of inhalation and the beginning of exhalation. It also offers the Encore Pro SmartCard which tracks apnea/hypopnea index, leak, snore, date, time, ramp usage and duration of each session. You can view the BiPap Auto on our site at:

*PURITAN BENNET Puritan Bennet brought out their newest in their line up of machines - the 425ST.  This BiPap offers a backup rate which gives OSA patients a machine triggered breath in the event of apneas or hypopneas. It has a patented FlowSens technology which allows a patient to customize inspiratory/expiratory sensitivity. With the onset of cold and flu season we would like to remind everyone of the importance in changing your filter, tubing and masks.  Bacteria can grow in all of these items and can cause mild to severe health issues.  Mild health effects can be those similar to a cold whereas severe health effects can be varied upper respiratory infections.

 

Medicare suggests the following schedule should be followed for replacing CPAP products:

 

.     Filters - 30 Days

.     Tubing- 30 Days

.     Mask -  90 Days

 

Do NOT take chances with your health and well being.  Replace your filters, tubing and mask as suggested. Keep your equipment clean.

 

Does your throat become dry or do you get a dry and stuffy nose with the onset of the fall/winter season? Using a cool or hot humidifier can help. The newer models of CPAP machines offer the integrated heated humidification system or using a simple, cool passover such as the Tiara Medical Velocity may stop the dryness and irritation.
