CPAP Machines

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) was created as a treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).  CPAP machines are used as the primary device to treat OSA by sending air into the patient’s passageways to ensure they do not collapse during sleep.   Scroll to the bottom of the page or click here for more information on CPAP Machines.

What are CPAP Machines?

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure or CPAP machines are the most effective treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and are non-invasive. The CPAP machine delivers a constant flow of pressurized air through a tube and out of a mask to keep a person’s airway open. This prevents apneas (pauses in breathing due to a collapsed airway) and hypopneas (shallow breaths due to a partially closed airway) from occurring, allowing the user to experience a full night of deep, uninterrupted sleep. The pressure of air the machine delivers is unique to each user and is prescribed by a doctor. Using a CPAP machine may take some getting used to, but once accustomed to it, people often feel better rested, more motivated, and happier throughout the day. Every machine comes with a power cord, filter, and hose (tubing), and can be enhanced with additional elements such as humidifiers and insulated hose coverings. They are small enough to fit on a bedside table and some are convenient for traveling.
