What are Nasal CPAP Masks?Nasal masks are one type of mask that is used in conjunction with a CPAP machine. They are the most popular type of mask and come in silicone, gel, or cloth styles. Nasal masks are shaped like a triangle and extend from the bridge of the nose to the upper lip, allowing air from your CPAP machine to enter through your nose. They are held in place by four-point headgear. These masks are ideal for people who breathe only through their nose at night; however, if your mouth opens while you sleep and you prefer the lower coverage of the nasal mask, consider using a chinstrap with your mask to keep your mouth closed. All nasal masks are compatible with all machines and are connected to the CPAP machine by a flexible hose. The mask should fit comfortably and seal completely without leaving red marks or causing soreness. It is suggested that mask cushions be replaced approximately every three months or when they begin to lose their shape or ability to seal well. It is also suggested that the entire mask be replaced every six months or when it begins to leak, rip, or fit uncomfortably. Also, the mask should be washed daily with warm water and gentle soap or baby shampoo and air dried.
