The Moon and Our Sleep Patterns

Jun 18, 2014

It has been a long and widely thought idea that the moon’s patterns have an effect on our sleep patterns. Recent studies debate this belief. Originally it was thought that during times of a full moon it was hard to obtain a good night’s rest. These beliefs originate from old folklore tales. Studies in Germany were done to disprove this belief. They analyzed the data of over 2,000 patients sleep studies. The problems with earlier studies that kept from disproving this belief earlier is that they did not take enough samples.

These new studies showed that in fact there is no link between lunar cycles and the way you are able to sleep. Our circadian rhythms are not at all effected by the moon. The moon effects lunar tides not sleep patterns. After thousands of years we can finally let go in the belief that the moon has power over our sleep.
